We have returned from a great trip to rural northern Japan. This was a unique trip in a number of ways.
    • This trip was "hand designed" by Steve Beimel, the trip leader
    • We participated, we walked, we talked, we looked, we didn't just ride from place-to-place
    • Steve blended information and experience to answer the twin questions: How is it? and Why is it that way?
We have looked at the trip from several points of view and begun writing  with a day-by-day description of what we did and some of the surprises along the way. (We had to promise Steve that we would not tell everything -- we enjoyed the surprises and want to leave them for those who follow.)

We extended our trip one day to visit the Miho Museum. When the others left the train in Tokyo to head for the airport, we changed trains and headed for Kyoto.

Our tour was designed and led by Steve Beimel. Steve told us he landed in Japan when he was 23 and fell in love with the country. It is now a few years later, he has another business and leads tours because he wants to share the joy of Japan with others. He certainly succeeded on our tour. The tour company operates under the name Esprit Travel Corp.

This part of Japan is a tourist area for Japanese, we saw a lot of tours and tour busses. But, we did not notice any foreign visitors after we left Narita.
