This page provides notes and miscellaneous information about the trip.

    Hotels and restaurants:

Puerto Varas: Hotel Y Cabañas Del Lago (arrival and Day 1)
Arrival evening: Donde el Gordito Restaurant, great seafood in an informal setting. Try any of their seafood, congrial is a specialty, a la Pil Pil -- that is with garlic and brandy.
Day One: Merlin an award winning restaurant, see story.
All breakfasts and dinners were in the hotel and we packed lunches except as noted.
    Frutillar: Hotel Salzburg (Day 2)
Dinner in the hotel restaurant. More and different seafood.
Ensenada: Hotel Ensenada (Day 3 and 4) Built in the 1930's as a park lodge. Well cared for and stocked with antiques including several pair of skis with bindings like my father used to use.
Dinners in the hotel. A good selection of delicious "home cooked" food.
Lunch on Day 4, Café Landhaus, one of the landmarks on the route map. Pretty view. Good sandwich, but you'll want more for lunch if you are going on the rafting trip.
Llao Llao: A five star hotel and resort (Day 5 and 6)5 star "Built in 1938 and refurbished in 1993, the hotel is an architectural masterpiece recognized as a National Historic Landmark. Beautifully located in the heart of the Patagonia, surrounded by lakes, mountains and forests all within walking distance of the hotel. Llao Llao retains all its former charm, the original design of cypress logs, shingles and stone harmonizes perfectly with the beauty of its Andean setting." [From their Web site, golf]
Breakfasts and dinners in the hotel. Excellent selection.
Villa La Angostura: Hosteria Las Balsas 2nd site a Relais & Châteaux hotel (Day 7 and 8)
Breakfasts, afternoon tea with a view of the lake and dinners at the hotel.
San Martin de los Andes: Hosteria La Cheminee (Day 9 and 10)
