Tools and Other Writings is a folder of material that has been written in the course of my IT career. It includes samples of client deliverables (names have been changed,) material that is somewhat informal because it was written just for the use of project teams, and some personal writing to introduce a third style. The samples are presented here as examples of my work and writing styles. PM3-Project Management Methodology ManualThis is a sample of portions of the delivered Project Management Methodology Manual, PM3. The original manual was 59+ pages with 16 Appendixes and 18 Figures. Sample material from each section is included here along with figures that were in the original. The entire Table of Contents, Preface and Introduction are included here to provide context and a high level overview of the entire process. This process was developed specifically for a client who endorsed PMI's PMBOK and had purchased and was installing Oracle Project Manager. Executives had been involved in development. This is a review and not an introduction. It was created to coincide with the delivery of the above manual. Its subscription reach almost 400 recipients nationwide based solely on word-of-mouth promotion. We have retained a link to the first issue, a late issue-#58, the last issue, and an index of articles sorted by issue and by date to illustrate its scope. Today this would have been a blog.Communications GuidelinesYou have a large amount of information to communicate, and your communication must produce results. To facilitate that process, we have used both ancient lessons and recent experience to prepare a set of communication guidelines. Editing That Moves Ideas to ActionEffective writing is created through a series of steps. Some writers follow these steps intuitively; most writers produce better results quicker by following them explicitly. My role can range from advisor-to-the-author to hands-on editing to original writing and even participation in the development of ideas. As an editor, my role is always to assist the owners of the final product communicate more effectively. The King & The WoodcutterA chain is only as strong as its weakest link; we all know that. But, today's networks are not linear like chains; they are linked with multiple paths. If there is a flaw along any path then the entire network is at risk. Let's use a parable to illustrate some of the issues. In this story there are two main characters. A king, who represents the executives of your organization, and a woodcutter, who represents the business associates or anyone else who is a trusted user of your network.
