Came across your web page and noticed that you visited Santa Cruz Island. My family's origins on Santa Cruz Island go back to 1869. My family owned the East end of the island from 1926 to 1997 and operated a sheep ranch during that time. My early life was governed by ranch activity and spent many weekends and summers working on the ranch. I hope you enjoyed your experience visiting the island. It is truly a treasure peace that will be preserved for the public.

You may be interested in know that the first comprehensive history book on Santa Cruz Island has been published. The title of the book is Santa Cruz Island, A History of Conflict and Diversity (Arthur Clark Publishing, Spokane, Washington) The book was written by my brother John Gherini who is a Santa Barbara attorney and resident. The book covers the storied history of the island from the days the Chumash Indians occupied up to and including the purchase of the Gherini Ranch by the National Park Service. The book is fully annotated. If you are interested in the book, you can contact the publisher directly at 800 842-9286.
